How much will it cost?

These vary depending on hours required, and the nannies experience and qualifications. The following rates can be used as a guide:

  • Daily or live in nanny**       $17 - $25 per hour
  • Mothers help**                  $14 - $16 per hour
  • Babysitter (from 6.30pm)   $14 per hour

*If live in a set amount is then deducted each week for food and board  e.g $150 per week.

Hours of work vary depending on each families individual needs, full time positons such as Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm are the most sought after.

Full time and permanent part time nannies are eligible for four weeks holiday per year plus statutory holidays; should the need arise to work statutory holidays then the employee will be given time off in lieu. This is to be paid after one years service. Holiday dates must have prior agreement of the employer who can request the candidate takes some leave at their own convenience e.g. to coincide with their own holidays. Alternatively, they are to be paid 8% of their gross income if they leave before completion of one years service or the position was for a duration of less than one year.

For temporary nannies or short-term assignments, the annual leave is included in the hourly rate. If a family take holidays over and above the four weeks allocated to the nanny, the family is bound to pay the nanny for any days over and above her four weeks holiday at the same rate of pay the nanny would normally receive.
